How can we help?
Questions about Sambo or need help with the app? Here you'll find answers to common questions and how to contact us.
Common questions
How does Sambo work?
Sambo is an iPhone app that helps two people who live together keep track of what they share day to day – shared costs and expenses, shopping lists, things to do, the calendar and details about the home.
You add your costs and choose how to split them. Each month Sambo works out who owes whom. Sambo doesn't move any money – you pay the way you usually do and mark the month as paid.
How is our data synced?
Sambo stores and syncs your information with iCloud. Your shared household is stored in the iCloud of the person who created it and shared with the other person through iCloud sharing. Anything you mark as private is stored only in your own iCloud.
Changes are saved on the phone first and sent when there's an internet connection. Sambo has no server of its own.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Sambo uses the iCloud account you're signed in with on your iPhone. There's no separate Sambo account with a username and password.
You need to be signed in to iCloud to create or join a household. Want to look around first? Choose “Explore with example data” – it works without iCloud and is only stored on the phone.
How do I invite my partner?
The person who created the household sends the invitation:
- Open More › Household and tap “Send invitation”. You can also invite right when you create the household.
- Choose how to send it, for example with Messages or Mail.
- Your partner installs Sambo, opens the link on their iPhone and enters their name and phone number.
Only the person you invite can join, and the invitation is for the iCloud account it was sent to. If the link doesn't work, you can create a new one under More › Household. A household has room for two people.
What happens if I get a new iPhone?
Sign in with the same Apple Account on the new iPhone and install Sambo. When the app starts, it finds your household in iCloud and downloads it, together with your private data. You don't need to be invited again.
Settings that only apply to the phone – such as notifications and syncing with the iPhone Calendar – need to be turned on again on the new phone.
The household belongs to your iCloud account. If you sign in with a different Apple Account, it won't appear in Sambo.
How do I delete my data?
Go to More › Privacy & data › Leave household. If you created the household, it's deleted for both of you. If you joined someone else's household, you leave it and the shared information stays with the other person. You can save an export of your data first with “Export my data”.
Private lists and private costs are stored in your own iCloud and remain even if you leave the household. You delete those in the app, one at a time.
Deleting the app removes the copy on the phone, but what's stored in iCloud remains. If you need help removing something, you're welcome to contact us.
I'm having problems with the app – what should I do?
Start by checking the following:
- That you're signed in to iCloud: Settings › your name › iCloud.
- That Sambo is updated to the latest version.
- That the phone has an internet connection. Changes made offline are sent automatically when you're back online.
- That there's space in iCloud. If your storage is full, new changes can't be shared until there's room.
None of that helped? Contact us and describe what's happening – ideally with your iPhone model and iOS version.
