What is Sambo?
Sambo is an iPhone app for two people who live together. It brings shared finances, shopping lists, calendar, documents and information about your home into one place.
Why is it called Sambo?
Sambo is Swedish for the person you live with – short for sammanboende, “living together”. Swedes use it every day, and it felt like the right name for an app about sharing a home and everyday life.
How does Sambo split costs?
You add shared costs and expenses and choose how to split them – equally, by percentage, by income or with exact amounts. Each month Sambo shows how you even out: from whom, to whom and how much.
Can I take a photo of a receipt?
Yes. Take a photo of the receipt and Sambo reads the lines right on your phone. You choose what's shared, what's your own and what shouldn't be included, and Sambo checks that it adds up to the receipt's total.
Does Sambo move money?
No. Sambo never moves money. You transfer the way you usually do and then mark the month as done.
Can my partner see everything I add?
What you share, you both see. What you save as private – costs, expenses, lists and documents – only you can see.
Where is our information stored?
In iCloud, through your own Apple accounts. Sambo has no server of its own.
Do you sell our data?
No, never. Your data is stored in your own iCloud and we cannot see it, so there is nothing to sell. The app has no ads and no tracking.
Does Sambo work on Android?
No, Sambo is available for iPhone.
Which languages is Sambo available in?
The app and this website are available in Swedish, English, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, German, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
Does Sambo work with bank transfers, PayPal or Venmo?
Sambo doesn't open any payment app. It shows the amount that evens things out, and you pay the way you usually do – by bank transfer, PayPal, Venmo or anything else. Then you mark the month as done.
Is it easy to switch from another app?
Yes. It's easy to switch to Sambo from other apps, so you can pick up where you left off.
